What is hyaluronic acid and how does it work?

Mitä hyaluronihappo on ja miten se toimii?

Hyaluronic acid has risen to cultivation in skin care, and not without reason. It is a completely natural and effectively moisturizing ingredient. But what is hyaluronic acid, and how does it work in the skin?

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate) is an ingredient that occurs naturally throughout our body. Despite its name, it is not an acid, but a long chain sugar molecule that binds moisture.

Hyaluronic acid can be found especially in the eyes, joints and skin and is responsible for keeping them well moisturized. It is a gel -like, slippery substance that binds very well water. In our skin, hyaluronic acid acts as a moisture -binding ingredient, makes the skin flexible and improves its surface texture.

With age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases and therefore the skin's ability to retain moisture is reduced. At the same time, the skin's gimmick is also reduced. The lack of hyaluronic acid in the skin contributes to the development of fine lines and wrinkles and the flake of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid in cosmetics

Hyaluronic acid used in cosmetics is a sealing powder that becomes gel -like when added to the water. It binds so much water that it does not have to be high in the product to be effective. Already at 1% concentration produces significant results and increasing the concentration does not bring more than 2% benefits in skin care. The ideal content is somewhere between 0.75 and 2%.

It is not decisive in itself to whether or not it is a high quality product or not. More important is whether the product can find hyaluronic acid in different molecock and to which ingredients the hyaluronic acid is combined. For example, glycerin, moisturizing the skin and hyaluronic acid, have synergistic effects and make each other more effective. In addition, other skin care ingredients can be added to the product to support hyaluronic acid.

It is also important to note that hyaluronic acid is available in different molecular size. The most commonly used traditional hyaluronic acid is large molecule and thus cannot be absorbed very deep in the surface of the skin. This does not mean that it still has benefits in skin care. It binds moisture to the surface layer and helps the skin maintain moisture, which is very useful. The smaller molecular hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, can be absorbed deeper into the skin layers. This has a long -lasting and more effective effect. Small molecule hyaluronic acid can smooth and so -called filling fine lines because it can store moisture deeper into the skin. The molecular size may not be marked on the ingredient list, but the manufacturer tells its product information.

This is how hyaluronic acid affects skin care:

  • Moisturize and maintain skin moisture balance
  • Help smoothes the surface of the skin, reduce lines and wrinkles
  • Improves skin elasticity and flexibility

Who is good for hyaluronic acid?

  • For all skin types
  • Particularly useful for dry and moisture -like skin
  • Also suitable for sensitive skin
  • For aging skin benefits in particular
  • Hyaluronic acid is an excellent moisturizer for oily skin

Hyaluronic acid is an effective and versatile ingredient in skin care. Its ability to bind moisture makes it an excellent choice for the compositions of moisturizing products, and its benefits are suitable for all skin types. No matter what your skin type is, hyaluronic acid is a useful addition to the daily skin care routine.
